What
is the Purpose of a Casting Director? |
The purpose
of a casting director is to bring together talent and production companies.
To facilitate this, casting directors develop a database containing files
of individuals with a very wide range of talents, physical characteristics,
features, and skills. When a producer is interested in casting parts
for an upcoming production, they can easily browse the files already
collected by the casting director instead of initiating their own time
consuming recruitment efforts.

What
Types of People Register with a Casting Director?
|
Actually,
anyone can register with a casting director. There is really no way to
foresee just what projects will be coming up for a production company,
and what types of roles they will need to cast. People who are old and
young, big and small, tall and short, bald and bearded...there could
be a role for anyone! You don't have to have a formal education in acting,
be a union member, or be a "professional." On the registration
form, you will have the chance to indicate the features that you have,
languages you speak, ethnicities you can portray, as well as all of
the skills you have. On the list are: rockclimbing, bike riding, swimming,
football, trampoline, rollerskating, juggling, and canoeing... just
to name a few! We even have people who have specially trained animals
and people who own classic automobiles or have unique properties. Basically,
the answer is that anyone can register.

What
Does a Casting Director Do? |
The Casting
Director brings to the creative process of putting a project together,
his or her experience and skill in picking out actors that meet the
demands of the project's script, the producers and directors ideas of
what the characters should look and sound like, and the expertise that
the casting director sees in a performer's skills that can move the
characters in ways that have not yet been explored. Meeting with the
creative forces behind the project, putting together lists of actors
and having them read for the director, working with the actors, and
showing them how they may work into the role all combine to make the
work of the Casting Director the rewarding vocation many have found
it to be. |

What
Happens when I submit my Registration Form?
|
When you
submit your registration form (and all of its components) to the casting
director, they keep your information in two places. The first is in a
physical file that producers can pick up and thumb through, and the
second is by accessing a secure part of this website where all of our
talent files are also located. This makes it very convenient for producers
to quickly search through our files and hopefully find just the right
person for the part! |
|
|
What
if nobody calls me for a part?
|
You can never
tell exactly what kinds of projects will be coming up, or what types
of people will be needed for them. The best advice is to make sure that
your casting director is aware of any changes and updates to the information
in your file, so that potential casting directors will have a very complete
picture of all your skills and qualities. Don't give up! |
